Choosing a Siding Profile for Your Home

April 15, 2021 by Kenneth Hondo

Shopping for new siding is an exciting phase, especially when you realize that there are several options for you to choose from. From styles and sizes to colors and textures, you can surely find something that suits your needs.

In this post, preferred James Hardie™ siding contractor Precision #1 Contractors Inc. discusses some important considerations to make when choosing a siding profile.

Size

When looking at your siding options, make sure to get the siding profile’s width. There are certain types of siding profiles that work best using wider panels. This style can enhance the facade of a home, especially if it features a Colonial style. Meanwhile, other siding profiles are narrow in size — which can be advantageous if you want your home to look taller than it actually is. Typically, ranch or bungalow-style homes are well suited for such profiles.

Horizontal or Vertical

James Hardie siding and siding products from other manufacturers have two main categories of siding profile: horizontal and vertical.

Horizontal siding is often used in traditional homes, and they especially go well with Cape Cod and Craftsman styles. But if you want a siding profile that can make your home stand out, vertical siding would be a good choice to consider. Vertical siding is also ideal for creating an illusion of height, so it is usually recommended for one-story homes.

Creating a Good Combination

If you want to mix things up a bit, you can do this with the texture of your siding. Select different textures for your siding and come up with a good combination that will produce an interesting look on your home’s exterior. You might want to seek the help of a professional here so that you can make the right choices and be able to enhance your home’s curb appeal.
