Your Guide to the HardieZone® System

November 3, 2021 by Update Admin

Each region of the United States has its own specific climatic characteristics. From the arid heat to the sub-zero temperatures. Because the climate isn’t one-size-fits-all, neither should your home siding and trim. When designing its siding and trim, James Hardie took climate variances into account. They created the HardieZone® System, which is based on eight different environmental elements that affect the long-term durability of siding. To help you understand more about it, one of the best roofing contractors Precision Roofing shares a guide on how the HardieZone System works.

What Is HardieZone?

HardieZone does not follow the Köppen system, instead of relying on its own climatic classification. It divides the country into ten “zones” and eight climate factors. James Hardie has created a distinct HardieZone product line for zones 1–5 and zones 6–10. Each product line is tailored to a specific climate zone and may not function as well for others.

It’s really important to hire a professional for your stucco siding and roofing issues. This is where the HardieZone system comes in, to help them address your home improvement issues, suited for your area’s climate.

HZ5®

HZ5 is the siding product line for zones 1-5, which are designed specifically for cold-weather areas prone to snow, ice dams, and high-temperature differences. To combat severe weather events, your home roofing contractor recommends HZ5 siding products for moisture resistance and paint adherence. HZ5 products also include a drip edge to control water flow once the snow melts.

HZ10®

Meanwhile, HZ10 is a HardieZone line that is specifically built for places in the path of severe weather, such as hurricanes. While HZ5 siding is designed to last visually, HZ10 siding is engineered to last. They are designed to withstand hurricanes, salty, humid coastal air, and even the muggy conditions of the Deep South. They do not crack, split, or deteriorate like traditional siding.
